- Learning to Walk in The Spirit
- Learning to Walk in The Spirit – Part A
- Learning to Walk in The Spirit – Part B
Allow me to repeat the four things that will help us to Learn How to Walk in The Spirit:
I. We Must Recognize The Spirit’s Promptings
II. We Must Respond to The Spirit’s Promptings
III. We Must Rely on The Spirit’s Provisions
IV. We Must Reap The Spirit’s Productivity
In Part A, I shared with you the first two points: “We must Recognize the Spirit’s Promptings” and “We must Respond to The Spirit’s Promptings.” Here in Part B, we will address the second two points: “We must Rely on the Provisions of the Spirit” and “We must Reap the Spirit’s Productivity.”
III. We Must Rely on The Spirit’s Provisions
Here is the most important thing I may say to you in this entire message… And that is… “The Holy Spirit will always be the complete provision and resource for accomplishing everything He prompts you to do.”
The Holy Spirit will never ask you to do anything out of your own resources or your own strength. The Holy Spirit will never ask you to do something for which He is unwilling to provide everything you need to accomplish it. He is your Provision for everything He prompts you to do. Every demand God places on your life is ultimately a demand upon the Holy Spirit.
When I surrendered to the call to preach, I told the Lord I couldn’t preach, I stuttered, I had a speech impediment because of a hearing problem from birth. But when I preached, I quite stuttering, my speech cleared up. The Holy Spirit made provision, because I surrendered.
There are only two ways to live our lives. One leads to death, and the other leads to victory. It is useless and sinful for us to try to live a victorious Christian life in the strength and power of our own flesh. We must abandon all our fleshly resources, and come to rely on the power and resources of the Holy Spirit. It is fruitful, fulfilling, and refreshing to live our lives in the power of the Holy Spirit.
(2 Corinthians 3:4-5) “And such trust have we through Christ toward God: (5) Not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think any thing as of ourselves; but our sufficiency is of God;”
IV. We Must Reap The Spirit’s Productivity
What is it that the Spirit of God Produces?
Answer: Life – not just life, but life everlasting and abundant. (Romans 8:2) “For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death”.
There are four things the Spirit of God will produce in our life when we Walk in the Spirit:
A. He Will Produce Victory over Sin and the Flesh in Our Lives:
(Romans 8:2) “For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death.”
(Galatians 5:16) “This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.”
When we are walking in the Spirit, He will produce great victory over sin and the flesh. You don’t sit in church, the Spirit is moving and you’re so happy; you don’t sit there and think, I’ll go get drunk or commit adultery.
No! You are in the Spirit. Not the flesh.
B. He Will Produce Spiritual Fruit in Our Lives:
(Galatians 5:22-25) “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law. And they that are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts. If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.”
These are all natural by-products of the Holy Spirit. They are what He always produces in the life of a person who is fully yielded to Him. When we are walking in the Spirit, our lives will be characterized by the attitude and actions of the Spirit. These attitudes and actions will tell the world that we are the children of God, and the life we live is in the demonstration of the Holy Spirit.
When these fruits are noticeably absent from our lives, it is a sure indication that we are not Walking in the Spirit.
C. He Will Produce Peace and Confidence in Our Lives:
(Romans 8:1) “There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.”
(Romans 8:5-6) “For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit. (6) For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.”
There is a Spirit of tranquility, confidence, and indescribable joy that fills the heart and mind of a person who is Walking in the Spirit. Why? Because they know that they are not under condemnation because they are in Christ.
We have peace and confidence about our present life, and about what the future holds for our life, simply because we know Who holds the future. One of the ways I can tell whether or not I am Walking in the Spirit, or walking in the strength of my own flesh, is by measuring the level of anxiety, fear, worry, frustration, and stress that I am feeling in my life. Anxiety, fear, worry, etc. are always the products of walking in the strength of my own flesh rather than in the power of the Holy Spirit.
D. He Will Produce an Effective Witness in Our Lives:
When we are Walking according to the Spirit, I can assure you of one other thing that will begin to happen in our lives – we will become effective witnesses for the Lord Jesus Christ, both vocally and visually.
How do I know this? I know this because Jesus said, When the Spirit has come, He will not speak about Himself, or promote Himself – He will speak about Jesus. and promote Jesus (John 16:13).
(Acts 1:8) “But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.”
When I am filled with the Spirit, and He is in control… my heart and my mind are always consumed with Christ, and I talk about Him as naturally as I would talk about anyone else. When the Holy Spirit takes full control, we cannot help but think and talk about the Lord Jesus Christ.
Conclusion
Walking in the Spirit will make a difference in the life of every Christian. Walking in the Spirit will cause us to recognize His promptings. Walking in the Spirit’s Power will cause us to rely on His provision for our lives, and reap His productivity in our lives. If you have not received the Lord Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, I want to encourage you to do so now. You can be forgiven of your sins experientially, and begin your Walk in the Spirit.
