David said in Psalm 12:1, “Help, LORD; for the godly man ceaseth; for the faithful fail from among the children of men.” Could this be the reason that today our communities, cities, states and nation are so far from the Path of Righteousness? Crime is rampant; lawlessness abounds in our streets and in our schools. Our homes are no longer the stabilizing force that they were designed to be. It seems that selfishness is king, and the motto is, “What’s mine is mine and what’s yours is mine.” Honor and respect of authority are at an all time low. There is a general decay of every facet of our society today. The world is having to build more and more prisons.
This decay began in our churches and then spread to our homes. In religion, compromise has become the major doctrine that many have bowed to; the misunderstanding of the role of the man and the woman in the home has undermined the very foundation of the home. There are new Bibles on the shelf of every home that have redefined the role of the father and the mother. These new Bibles have deleted the Blood of Christ and made Holiness a doctrine of the past. And God’s Wrath on sin has been replaced with “the end justifies the means.”
Many men today seem to fit Proverbs 14:12, “There is a way which seemeth right unto a man...” That is, he is not interested in what God says, only what seems right to him, what feels good to his flesh. There is seemingly no understanding of the consequences of following his own way. For Proverbs 14:12b says, “But the end thereof are the ways of death.”
Where is the Godly man? Where is the faithful man? Why has he ceased out of the land? So David prays, “Help Lord.” Yes, our homes, our cities, our states and our nation need God to help restore the Godly man, the faithful man that believes that God is. He is the recipient of the Grace and Mercy of God; one whose mind has been regenerated, thus becoming a new creature in Christ; one who has the Mind of Christ and the Power of Christ. He is one who “walketh uprightly and worketh righteousness and speaketh truth in his heart.” Psalm 15:2-5:
“He that walketh uprightly, and worketh righteousness, and speaketh the truth in his heart. He that backbiteth not with his tongue, nor doeth evil to his neighbour, nor taketh up a reproach against his neighbour. In whose eyes a vile person is contemned; but he honoureth them that fear the LORD. He that sweareth to his own hurt, and changeth not. He that putteth not out his money to usury, nor taketh reward against the innocent. He that doeth these things shall never be moved.”
Of course this can be summed up in Matthew 22:37-40:
“Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.”
Yes Lord, help us to have the Godly man in our society; in our homes and our churches; in our local, state and national governments.
Where are you, reader of this devotion? Are you a Godly man, a faithful man, standing in the gap? O Lord, help us, we must return to the “old paths” and rebuild the Wall of Truth and the Path of Holiness.
