“My soul, wait thou only upon God; for my expectation is from him.” (Psalms 62:5)
The Psalmist is making an encouraging statement to himself as a reminder to stay focused on the One True Help that we have in God only.
He does not say, my mother, my brother, my friend, etc., etc… But he says, “My soul”! Some may call it talking to yourself. But I think it is a blessing that we have the ability to reason within ourselves.
Your soul is the real you. Your body is the house of dwelling for the soul. There are things that satisfy the soul; and things that satisfy the body. Sometimes we think that the temporary things that we do, and use, to satisfy the body can be used to satisfy the soul.
We should know that the soul is eternal, but the body shall return unto the dust from which it came.
They both belong to God, and He is the One responsible for providing the things that they need. I know now, that He is well able!
Thank God that He opened my eyes to this fact! Before He did, my expectations were to be satisfied from myself and the things of this world. Now, my expectations are much, much higher!!! And just like the Psalmist, I have to remind myself not to keep getting ahead of myself; and to be patient; and to wait on the Lord, and only upon Him, for whatever it is my soul needs.
I have found Him to be Protection, Provision, Perseverance, and Plenty Profitable for my soul. He does a far greater job than I do myself. Therefore, my expectation is from Him.
I am looking forward to spending all eternity with Him in that place He said He had prepared for me (John 14:1-3).
He said it in His Word. What more is to be expected?
