“This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success” (Joshua 1:8)
It’s funny how we go through life reading all types of books that tell us to take many different steps: 7, 12, or 21, to find success. But we often overlook The Book that promises true success. The beautiful thing about this scripture is that He Who cannot lie, God, promised this success.
The book of Joshua begins with the death of Moses. Moses was a man who stood between God and the children of Israel, and to Israel was the closest thing to God. They saw Moses talk face-to-face with God, receive the Law and the Commandments, and lead them through the Red Sea, just to name a few things. Without question, Moses was a great leader to his minister Joshua and to the children of Israel; and his death would be a great blow to them. God had promised the children of Israel the Land of Canaan; and with Moses their leader being dead, it would seem that this wasn’t going to happen.
God calls Joshua and tells him to be of good courage; because not only will he now lead the children of Israel into the Promised Land, but he would prosper and have good success. This is the only time success is mentioned in the Bible – and it is conditional. See, we all want God to do His part and give us what He said He would give us; but we don’t want to do our part and do what God tells us to do to get those things.
God told Joshua to do three things: don’t let the Book of the Law depart out of his mouth, meditate in the Law day and night, and observe to do according to all that is written therein. God told Joshua that if he did these things, then God would make his way prosperous and have good success.
I heard a song where a man said that he wanted the money, cars, and clothes, but above all he just wanted to be successful.
You can have all these things and still not be successful, because true success only comes through Jesus Christ. And the Blueprint is only found in the Word of God.
