Genesis 9:1-7
The height of God’s Creation is man. Why? Because God chose to manifest Himself in a human body, soul, and spirit (yet without sin). (See Hebrews 10:1-22; 4:15.)
David asks the question, “What is man, that thou art mindful of him?” (Psalms 8:4a). The answer is found in Hebrews 2:5-17, “But we see Jesus…” (verse 9a).
Yes, Jesus, God in the Flesh – this is why God is mindful of man. This is the channel which God, who is Spirit, chose to reveal Himself, robed in flesh and blood, yet without sin.
What a Masterful Designer God is!
Man was to be the ruler and subduer of God’s Creation. Man was given authority over all God’s Creation. But man is also subject to human government. God set up rules for men to co-exist. In Genesis 9:5-6, God set up the order: a life for a life:
“Whoso sheddeth man’s blood, by man shall his blood be shed: for in the image of God made he man.” (Genesis 9:6)
Later, in Exodus 21:24, Moses said “Eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot.” Also in Exodus, God gave the Ten Commandments for man to be subject unto.
People brag today of man’s free will. The only free will man has is to obey God’s Laws that regulate humanity. The law was given for the transgressor (1 Timothy 1:9-10). God set the order for murder. And as harsh as it seems, there would be no prisons if God’s Law was carried out. But man has intervened and has tried to circumvent God’s Order.
Anytime men try to change God’s Order for mankind, man suffers greatly. Take for instance abortion. It is actually murder; birth control is murder. When a nation or an individual sows seeds of corruption, the harvest will be destruction and corruption (Galatians 6:7-8).
God set this law in motion, “seedtime and harvest” (Genesis 8:22). You cannot bypass God’s Laws for the Community. No – no nation, no kingdom, no individual shall change God’s Laws for His Creation. They may try, but the results will be disastrous.
And so it is for every Child of God. We are to follow God’s order of seedtime and harvest in every area of our lives.
“Then said Jesus unto him, Put up again thy sword into his place: for all they that take the sword shall perish with the sword.” (Matthew 26:52)
“He that leadeth into captivity shall go into captivity: he that killeth with the sword must be killed with the sword. Here is the patience and the faith of the saints.” (Revelation 13:10)
Additional Thoughts and Scriptures for The Laws for the Community:
Reproduction; Man’s Activity; to multiply, to replenish the earth; thus birth control and abortion are wrong:
“And God blessed Noah and his sons, and said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth.” (Genesis 9:1)
“And you, be ye fruitful, and multiply; bring forth abundantly in the earth, and multiply therein.” (Genesis 9:7)
Restore; Man’s Authority; man is to have authority over God’s creation; lost in the fall, restored in Jesus Christ, the Ark
“And the fear of you and the dread of you shall be upon every beast of the earth, and upon every fowl of the air, upon all that moveth upon the earth, and upon all the fishes of the sea; into your hand are they delivered.” (Genesis 9:2)
Revelation; Man’s Diet; meat and herbs, but nothing strangled and the blood must be drained (see Acts 15:28-29):
“Every moving thing that liveth shall be meat for you; even as the green herb have I given you all things.” (Genesis 9:3)
“But flesh with the life thereof, which is the blood thereof, shall ye not eat.” (Genesis 9:4)
Requirement; God’s Law for Man; a life for a life (see Exodus 21:23-24; Numbers 35:31; Deuteronomy 19:21; 24:6; Romans 13:1-10; 1 Timothy 1:9-10)
“And surely your blood of your lives will I require; at the hand of every beast will I require it, and at the hand of man; at the hand of every man’s brother will I require the life of man.” (Genesis 9:5)
“Whoso sheddeth man’s blood, by man shall his blood be shed: for in the image of God made he man.” (Genesis 9:6)
From time to time, we need to revisit the Book of Genesis, the Book of Beginnings. We need to go back and review God’s Laws. Go back – surrendering to Him; submitting to His Word; obeying His Word; and enduring in the same. This is where and how the Fount of Every Blessing will continue to flood our beings and our lives. Amen and Amen!
Thank You God for the Study of Genesis again. Help us to follow Your Laws, in Jesus’ name, Amen.
