“I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help. (2) My help cometh from the LORD, which made heaven and earth.” (Psalms 121:1-2)
How many of God’s people arise in the morning thinking that they need help for the day’s activities? The need, many times, of God’s help required in the daily lives of His Children is brought to light in their spirit by their individual circumstances such as: 1) age; 2) health; 3) financial stability; 4) health of relationships; or 5) anything that has presented itself in their life as something they need, but do not have the ability to change the situation; therefore, must rely on outside help to make the change for the better. But after searching for man’s help and finding there is no help of man; then there is God.
Most of God’s Children in the 21st century are so self-sufficient and so affluent, that God is not needed on a regular basis until some major thing happens in their life. Many of God’s Children’s hope is in the doctor for their health, until the doctor says, “we can’t do any more for you”; or with the banker until he says, “we can’t lend you any more money”; or with the psychiatrist until he says, “all I have for you is more anti-depressants”; or with your pastor until he says, “I don’t know what else to tell you” – and the problem is not solved; and there is still a mountain in front of you that you can’t climb or go around in your own power; and you are desperate for relief. You ask yourself, “What do I do now?” and “Where do I go for help?”
Obviously, the answer is found in the text verse of this devotion, you don’t find help in the hills (the doctor, the banker, the psychiatrist, or your pastor; not to say that these people don’t have their place and can be and are used of God), but your ultimate help, when no one else can help you, is as David wrote, “my help cometh from the Lord.” Why is God my ultimate help and sufficiency?
The answer is simple, “which made heaven and earth.” That is, God is the Creator; God is the Controller; and God is the Consummator of His Creation. The God that made you is Jehovah, The Great I Am; The Alpha and The Omega; The Author of Life itself, even your life. He is the Designer; the Performer of His Purpose for your life. He made you as you are for His glory and for His honor. He is the One that keeps you 24/7; He is your Preserver, Protector, Provider; your Power and your Peace. He is your Sustainer, your Sufficiency, and your Savior. God is your Supply; for all things all possible by Him.
Question that you may ask: “If God is Sovereign; if God has a plan for me; if God is my Sufficiency; if God loves me – then, why does He not come and help me?” The answer again is very simple; God demands that His Children love Him, which is revealed by the keeping of His commandments (Jn. 14:15); to love the brethren (Jn. 13:34-35); to walk by Faith (Gal. 2:20); to come unto Him in prayer (Heb. 4:15-16); to humble yourselves (1 Peter 5:6; Matt.11:28-30); to confess your sins (1 Jn. 1:9); and to request His Counsel (Prov. 3:5-6), His Knowledge, His Wisdom, His Power; and submit to His Will in the matter (Jas. 4:2b-3; 2 Cor. 12:8-10); and then you will have success (Joshua 1:5-9). It honors God for His children to “come unto Me… and I will give you…”
Therefore, “in time of need,” come to Christ, Who loved you and gave Himself for you, that you would have life and it more abundantly. If you are at the end of your rope (or power), then, child of God, come to your Heavenly Father and lay yourself bare before Him today. (Read Ps. 23:1-6; Phil. 4:13.)
