My prayer is that we always speak “wisdom” (or the Word or God). My desire is that we always feed each other with His Word; for His Word (Christ) is Wisdom (Proverbs 8:12a).
Look at our text verses:
“The mouth of the righteous speaketh wisdom, and his tongue talketh of judgment.” (Psalms 37:30)
The law of his God is in his heart; none of his steps shall slide.” (Psalms 37:31)
We know, based upon the Word of God, that if we feed each other God’s Word, our steps will not slide. (Meaning, we will not slide to the flesh and sin.) But instead, our feet will be firmly placed on the Rock (Christ) and in the Rock (Christ). We will be equipped with wisdom in our spirits, which will give us the “how” to walk on our pathway. This wisdom will give us Light unto our path. For David said,
“Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.” (Psalms 119:105)
This means, with God’s Word in our hearts, we will have an understanding of the pitfalls and potholes, whereby the flesh is constantly lying in wait to deceive us and cause us to stumble. We will therefore, walk in the Love of God, and in the Light of God; walk circumspectly, and filled with the Spirit, and with all praises unto God (Ephesians 5:1-21).
When we walk in this manner, we will be keeping the Commandments of God (John 13:34-35; 14:15, 21-25; 1 John 2:4-6). When we keep His Commandments, then He makes His Abode within us; then we have a Light to walk as He walked; and then His Love is perfected in us. This will keep us from sin and error, doubt and defeat. For look at Psalms 36:9:
“For with thee is the fountain of life: in thy light shall we see light.”
Child of God, it is in His Light that we will stay pure and holy. When we stay pure and holy, God is honored, and we are kept safe from a fall. Being in the Light is the opposite of being in the darkness. Being in the Light makes us “children of light”:
“For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light:” (Ephesians 5:8)
(Read John 1:4, 5, 7, 9; 3:19-20; 8:12; 9:5; 12:36, 46; Acts 9:3; 2 Corinthians 4:6; 6:14; Ephesians 5:8, 14; Colossians 1:12; 1 Thessalonians 5:5; 1 John 1:5, 7; 2:8; Revelation 21:23; 22:5.)
As Children of Light, we love the Light, because we see sin for what it is; and we see the frailty of our flesh. We also see clearly the enemy of the Cross; which is the flesh, or the “old man,” the evil and wickedness of the heart (Jeremiah 17:9). Then we also see what sin will do in a person’s life.
But on the other side, the Light reveals the Love of God; the Holiness of God; and our Position of Righteousness in Christ, His Glory. The Light allows us to see our duties and responsibilities as His sons and daughters; and to see the Blessing of Obedience to Him, as we walk in the Light, or in Wisdom.
Remember, Psalm 37:31 is a Promise, “none of his steps shall slide.” Our steps will not slide; as long as we surrender our all to Him, submit to His Word, obey His Word, and endure in the same.
His Way is the Blessed Way; it is the way of daily Salvation (or Preservation). It is the way of Joy and Peace and Rest; the way of Happiness, Health, and Prosperity. It is the way of Victory over all things, even over ourselves (our old man). When a Child of God goes His Way, he is counted as an overcomer and shall inherit “all things”:
“He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son.” (Revelation 21:7)
His Way is not just The Best Way; but is it The Only Way for the Children of God; because we are His Children.
Therefore, “The mouth of the righteous speaketh wisdom.” Why? Because He, Wisdom (Christ) lives in us. Because His Way is the Way of Life. When we speak wisdom, it gives Light and Hope to all that can hear His Word. Not only does it help us not to slide, but it helps others around us not to slide; for we are witnesses of Him and of His Light, in a wicked and perverse generation:
“That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world;” (Philippians 2:15)
“Holding forth the word of life; that I may rejoice in the day of Christ, that I have not run in vain, neither laboured in vain.” (Philippians 2:16)
In the above verses Paul was exhorting the Church (mostly converted Jews) to be lights to the Nation of Israel (“a crooked and perverse nation”); that Paul “may rejoice in the day of Christ.” But we can apply this to us also, as far as living in a crooked and perverted world of sin; and as far as being lights to this world in which we live.
Child of God, check the words of your mouth today. Ask yourself: Are the words that flow from my mouth today “wisdom”? Do they reflect the Word of God? If not, examine yourself; find out why not.
In our text verse, “The mouth of the righteous speaketh wisdom,” David is stating a fact, not a possibility.
Our prayer today, and every day, should be:
“Set a watch, O LORD, before my mouth; keep the door of my lips.” (Psalms 141:3)
