“…and Noah walked with God.” (Genesis 6:9b)
The Position of the Seed Sower is important because it is a position ordained of God to sow His Seed. The Person of the Seed Sower is important because The Seed (Christ) lives in him. Now in this devotion, we see the Seed Sower is important because of his Performance of sowing The Seed (Christ).
“And Enoch walked with God…” (Genesis 5:22, 24)
“…and Noah walked with God.” (Genesis 6:9)
Noah walked with God and God spared his temporal life in the ark (which represented Christ) through the Flood that destroyed all living creatures on the earth.
The Old Testament reveals that many prophets, kings, and leaders walked with God. Why? Because “…Noah (and the others) found grace in the eyes of the LORD” (Genesis 6:8). Why? Because Noah (and the others) was a just men (justified, a righteousness man, clothed in the righteousness of Christ) and perfect (or upright in his walk) in his generations. Which proved the person of Noah, and all those in the Old Testament that walked with God, were His children, His sons and daughters, by His Grace in Christ; those in whom God dwelled.
1) The prophet Samuel (1 Samuel 12:1-5) walked before Israel without ought in his hand from his childhood unto old age, as was witness by the people.
2) Solomon said of his father, David, “…according as he walked before thee in truth, and in righteousness, and in uprightness of heart with thee…” (1 Kings 3:6)
3) Hezekiah petitioned God to heal him on the basis of his prior walk with God: “I beseech thee, O LORD, remember now how I have walked before thee in truth and with a perfect heart, and have done that which is good in thy sight…” (2 Kings 20:3)
4) It was said of Josiah: “And he did that which was right in the sight of the LORD, and walked in the ways of David his father, and declined neither to the right hand, nor to the left.” (2 Chronicles 34:2)
In the New Testament, the Apostle John said:
“He that saith he abideth in him (in Christ) ought himself also so to walk, even as he (Christ) walked.” (1 John 2:6)
John said if we say we abide in Christ and Christ abides in us, then we are saying we are born from above; we are regenerated, given the Spirit of God to dwell in us; and we know that we are His Children (Romans 8:14-16). Then our walk must be like Christ’s walk.
That is, our performance will be by Faith, or by Christ:
“I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.” (Galatians 2:20)
This means our works will be:
1) Faith Works:
a) Our works will be of Faith (or of Christ) (James 2:14-26)
“Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone.” (James 2:17)
“Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works.” (James 2:18)
“For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.” (James 2:26)
“For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.” (Philippians 2:13)
Therefore, it is Christ (The Faith) that works in us and produces our works of Faith, or of Christ.
“I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.” (Galatians 2:20)
“And what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power,” (Ephesians 1:19)
2) Holy Works:
a) “Be ye holy; for I am holy.” Because He is holy, pure, and perfect; our works will be also. In “all manner of conversation (behavior)”; that is, everything we do or say or think, will be holy (in the center of His Will):
“As obedient children, not fashioning yourselves according to the former lusts in your ignorance:” (1 Peter 1:14)
“But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation;” (1 Peter 1:15)
“Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy.” (1 Peter 1:16)
3) Good Works:
a) Being created in Christ, who is Holy (Ephesians 2:10; 4:25); then we have been ordained to do the same:
“For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.” (Ephesians 2:10)
“Having your conversation honest among the Gentiles: that, whereas they speak against you as evildoers, they may by your good works, which they shall behold, glorify God in the day of visitation.” (1 Peter 2:12)
b) We have been called to bear fruit:
“Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you.” (John 15:16)
“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.” (Galatians 5:22-23)
We are to bear fruit, more fruit, and much fruit; as we abide in Him (John 15:1-10).
4) Temple Works:
a) Because we are His Temple, His Body, His Church (1 Corinthians 3:16); we are to glorify Him in body and in spirit. We are to be His lights in the world, His ambassadors:
“To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation.” (2 Corinthians 5:19)
“Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.” (Matthew 5:14)
“Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house.” (Matthew 5:15)
“Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.” (Matthew 5:16)
“That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world;” (Philippians 2:15)
“Holding forth the word of life; that I may rejoice in the day of Christ, that I have not run in vain, neither laboured in vain.” (Philippians 2:16)
b) And we are to do this in body and in spirit:
i) In spirit:
“For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s.” (1 Corinthians 6:20)
“For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh:” (2 Corinthians 10:3)
“(For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;)” (2 Corinthians 10:4)
“Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;” (2 Corinthians 10:5)
ii) In body:
“For this is the will of God, even your sanctification (or being set apart), that ye should abstain from fornication:” (1 Thessalonians 4:3)
“I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.” (Romans 12:1)
“And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.” (Romans 12:2)
“Know ye not that they which run in a race run all, but one receiveth the prize? So run, that ye may obtain.” (1 Corinthians 9:24)
“And every man that striveth for the mastery is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a corruptible crown; but we an incorruptible.” (1 Corinthians 9:25)
“I therefore so run, not as uncertainly; so fight I, not as one that beateth the air:” (1 Corinthians 9:26)
“But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway.” (1 Corinthians 9:27)
“Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?” (2 Corinthians 6:14)
“And what concord hath Christ with Belial? or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel?” (2 Corinthians 6:15)
“And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.” (2 Corinthians 6:16)
“Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you,” (2 Corinthians 6:17)
“And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty.” (2 Corinthians 6:18)
“Having therefore these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.” (2 Corinthians 7:1)
5) Love Works:
“…ye believe in God, believe also in me.” (John 14:1b)
“Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him.” (John 14:23)
“A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another. By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.” (John 13:34-35)
“… that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me.” (John 17:21c)
“…that they may be made perfect in one; and that the world may know that thou hast sent me, and hast loved them, as thou hast loved me.” (John 17:23b-c)
Brethren, the world must see His Love in us; His Power; His Perfection; even His Life in us; and His Victory.
6) Life Works:
a) Life works point to Christ, who is Eternal Life, living in us and though us.
“For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved (preserved) by his life.” (Romans 5:10)
“For if by one man’s offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ.)” (Romans 5:17)
“For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith.” (1 John 5:4)
Therefore, our victory in this life and in the life to come is Christ in us and us in Him.
In Summary: our performance as Seed Sowers is to be witnesses of His Saving, Sanctifying, and Sustaining Grace. Therein lies the importance of the Seed Sower as he sows the Seeds of the Kingdom of God in his Position, in his Person, and in his Performance.
Brethren, as Haggai said, “Is the seed yet in the barn?” (Haggai 2:19a). If it is – Seed Sowers, go to work; for it is your calling.
