“…that diligently seek him.” (Hebrews 11:6d)
You learn the Reality of Jesus, God in the Flesh, Revelation by Regeneration. The story of the blind man in John 9 is an example of Jesus regenerating a person and then revealing Himself, after He had given the blind man sight.
Jesus did the same for the woman at the well in John 4; and also for Saul on the road to Damascus in Acts 9.
After Revelation by Regeneration comes, the next step is Realization by fruit-bearing. James says that we must not be hearers only, but also doers. James goes on to say that “faith without works is dead” (James 2:14-26).
Therefore, when a person receives Revelation by Regeneration; he comes to Realization by his action, or his response to God’s command to bear fruit (John 15:1-16), by doing the Word of God. That is, experiencing the process of daily Sanctification based on Redemption, Reconciliation, and Justification in the Atonement of Christ (1 Corinthians 1:30).
In Matthew 7:15-20, verse 20 says, “Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them.” There are only two kinds of fruits: (1) fruit of the flesh; or (2) fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:19-23).
The realization of who Jesus is comes to you when you surrender to Him, submit to Him, obey Him, and endure in the same. It is when you have a desire to please Christ in your body, your soul, and your spirit (1 Corinthians 6:9-20; 9:24-27; Romans 12:1-2; 2 Corinthians 6:14-18; 10:3-5). It is when you live by the Spirit, are led by the Spirit, and walk by the Spirit (Galatians 5:16, 18, 25). It is when you walk as Christ walked (1 John 2:4-6). It is when you love as He loved (Matthew 22:37-40; John 13:34-35).
It is when you realize you are no longer a bond slave of unrighteousness, but a bond slave of righteousness. It is when you come to understand the old man has been crucified and has been replaced by the new man; having been raised from the dead to walk in newness of life, His Life, who is Eternal Life (1 John 5:20). (Please read Romans 6:4-22.) Then you will bear fruit unto holiness and of the Spirit:
“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.” (Galatians 5:22-23)
It is when you realize you are free from the law of sin and death by the Spirit of life:
“For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death.” (Romans 8:2)
It is when you realize the Holy Spirit dwells in you, and you have the power to overcome all things (Romans 8:8-13; Philippians 4:13).
It is when you realize that it is Christ working in you to do His will and good pleasure (Philippians 2:13). When you realize that He is living His Life in your life (Romans 5:10, 17; Galatians 2:20):
“I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.” (Galatians 2:20)
It is when you realize that He has brought you to where He is (John 14:3; 17:21-24). That is, to be One in Him, as He and the Father are One; you have been brought to behold His Glory:
“That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me.” (John 17:21)
“And the glory which thou gavest me I have given them; that they may be one, even as we are one:” (John 17:22)
“I in them, and thou in me, that they may be made perfect in one; and that the world may know that thou hast sent me, and hast loved them, as thou hast loved me.” (John 17:23)
“Father, I will that they also, whom thou hast given me, be with me where I am; that they may behold my glory, which thou hast given me: for thou lovedst me before the foundation of the world.” (John 17:24)
The Chain of Grace is described in Romans 8:29-30:
“For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren.” (Romans 8:29)
“Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified.” (Romans 8:30)
The last step is glorification; as John 17:21-24 explains it. When you come to realize that Jesus is Lord, Master, and Kings of kings; then you are in His Presence, beholding His Glory, which you were fitted to do, as a vessel of honor (Romans 9:23-24).
“And that he might make known the riches of his glory on the vessels of mercy, which he had afore prepared unto glory, Even us, whom he hath called, not of the Jews only, but also of the Gentiles?” (Romans 9:23-24)
This understanding of your Position of Oneness in Him begins at conversion and ends in its fulness in Eternity.
Then lastly, you come to realize that you are His Body, His Bride; as a member of His Body, you are in fact, the Lamb’s Wife, the Holy City, New Jerusalem.
Then and then only can you confess that Jesus is truly God; your Sacrifice, your Substitute, and your Savior. That He is your Lord and Master, your Head, your Husband, the Owner of your entire being; that you are His Holy Temple, wherein His Glory is revealed (Ephesians 3:21).
You believe God is – when you follow Him. That is, you diligently follow Him, and know that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him. See Hebrews 11:6. These people know who Jesus is. He is The Christ, the Son of the Living God, even God Himself in the Flesh; their Substitute, Sacrifice, and Savior.
The life that you now live in Christ is a life of fruit-bearing (of fruit, more fruit, and much fruit). This is what God has ordained and called His servants unto; that is, fruit-bearing and fruit that remains (John 15:16).
The process of fruit-bearing comes from abiding in Christ. And many times it comes from the purging of the person by Christ through chastisements – through trials, tribulations, etc. (See Deuteronomy 8:1-8; Hebrews 12:5-11; Romans 5:3-5; James 1:2-4; John 15:1-10.)
In John 15:1-10, Christ reveals the secret of fruit-bearing; it is abiding in Christ (or dwelling in Him); for Christ is the Vine, the Power and the Source, of the fruit:
“Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me.” (John 15:4)
“I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.” (John 15:5)
“Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you.” (John 15:16)
The fruit that we are to bear is Love (John 15:8-13, 17):
“Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.” (John 15:13)
Love is defined and described as Charity (1 Corinthians 13:1-13). Love is the Core of the fruit of the Spirit:
“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.” (Galatians 5:22-23)
It all flows from God, who is Love, dwelling in the spirit of the believer.
As God’s Love flows out of us to Him and to one another (Matthew 22:37-40; 1 John 3:11-24; 4:7-21), there is definite proof in our spirit of who Jesus is. He bears witness with our spirit that He is God, our Father, “whereby we cry, Abba, Father” (Romans 8:14-16); and that we are the Sheep of His fold.
The desire to bear fruit, more fruit, and much fruit comes from God’s Sovereign Choice and Calling:
“Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain…” (John 15:16)
Unless the Love of God is shed abroad in a person’s heart (Romans 5:5), there is no perception of who Jesus is, no desire to surrender to Him, submit to Him, obey Him, and endure in the same.
But when a person receives the high, holy, and heavenly calling (2 Timothy 1:7-12), then that person begins to diligently seek Him. He wants to please God above his own flesh; his will is to walk as Christ walked – and then Love will be made perfect in him (1 John 2:4-6).
The result of this desire to please Christ is the Fruit of Love (Galatians 5:22-23). John records in 1 John 4:7, 13-15:
“Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God.” (1 John 4:7)
“Hereby know we that we dwell in him, and he in us, because he hath given us of his Spirit. And we have seen and do testify that the Father sent the Son to be the Saviour of the world. Whosoever shall confess that Jesus is the Son of God, God dwelleth in him, and he in God.” (1 John 4:13-15)
Then and then only, will we know the answer to Who Jesus is.
