- The Security; My Guard
“…I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever.” (Psalms 23:6b)
This is David’s final word to the reader of Psalm 23:1-6.
“The LORD is my shepherd”; for He is:
- The Source – my Guide;
- The Sovereign – my God;
- The Supply – my Giver; and now
- The Security – my Guard
David knew he would dwell in Christ, the House of the LORD; now, in his physical lifetime, and forever, in eternity.
The word “for ever” is not only a present tense, but a future tense. This is a true faith; one that sees, hears, and knows; past what is seen and heard:
“Now faith is the substance (or reality) of things hoped for, the evidence (or proof) of things not seen.” (Hebrews 11:1)
Reader, the Salvation of God is real, or reality; it is a know-so, a fact, a proof.
Man cannot explain Salvation; for man cannot fully understand the depth of Grace as revealed in the Love of God in Christ on the Cross. Grace cannot be explained; but only revealed in Christ, and witnessed in the spirit by Regeneration and Conversion by an internal raising of the dead sinner to life by the Work of God the Spirit.
Yes, Regeneration/Conversion is a mystery based upon the Eternal Purpose of God in Christ. But yet, God ordained the Sheep dead in sins and trespasses to be quickened and raised to walk in the newness of life (Eternal Life, Christ Himself). Now the Sheep has an internal witness that he is a son of God; whereby he cries “Abba, Father” (Romans 8:15-16).
Soon, on the heels of the quickened sinner’s confession:
“That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. (10) For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.” (Romans 10:9-10)
The Spirit of God leads, guides, teaches, and convicts; and empowers the new Babe-in-Christ to “understand” the Word of God. Thus the Babe-in-Christ is enabled to grow in grace and in knowledge of the Savior Jesus Christ.
This leading of the Holy Spirit is another proof that he is a son of God:
“For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.” (Romans 8:14)
Then soon, fruit of the Spirit begins to manifest itself on the branch (John 15:1-6, 16; Galatians 5:22-23).
As this process continues in the Sheep, he is brought from glory to glory by the Spirit of God (2 Corinthians 3:18).
He knows God dwells in His Sheep. He now has the power to perform the Commandments of Christ; to bear the fruit of the Spirit; to desire holiness and peace in his everyday walk. His assurance and confidence is that he is ever-secure in the Love of God. He sees himself overcoming by the Power of the indwelling Christ over all sin, faults, and mistakes (that doth so easily beset the Sheep on his earthly journey; Hebrews 12:1).
He has a desire to walk worthy of his calling in all lowliness and meekness, endeavoring to keep the unity of the Spirit, in the bond of peace. He knows he is separating himself from this world and its philosophy. He knows he is trying to bring his body into subjection, and his mind unto Christ. He knows his body is the Temple of God; therefore he is trying to glorify God in his body and spirit. He knows he loves the brethren.
He has a desire to proclaim by word and deed that Jesus is God in the flesh. And that this same Jesus became the Substitute, Sacrifice, and Savior for the penalty and punishment of sin for all His Sheep. He desires to be an Ambassador for Christ, and proclaim the Ministry of Reconciliation in Christ.
In fact, the Regenerated Sheep knows that he is a new creature in Christ and old things have passed away (2 Corinthians 5:17). He knows he is on his road home, to be with Christ forever and ever.
Reader, when the Lord is your Shepherd, you can say:
- “I shall not want”
- “I will fear no evil: for thou art with me”
- “I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever.”
Reader, this is David’s confession of faith; and it is the confession of all the Regenerated Sheep.
Reader, if you know you are one of His Sheep, then I pray these devotions build you up in the most holy Faith, the common Salvation once delivered to the saints; to encourage you on the battlefield as you fight the flesh, sin, etc. in the Name of the Lord Jesus Christ, and in His Power; because of His Grace for His Name’s sake.
The life of a Child of God is not an easy journey on the flesh. In fact, war is between the flesh and the spirit (Galatians 5:17).
But Child of Grace, rest in this:
- “The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.”
- “I will fear no evil: for thou art with me”
- “I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever.”
The LORD is The Source (my Guide). He is The Sovereign (my God). He is The Supply (my Giver). And He is The Security (my Guard).
All is well my friend; let not the boisterous winds take your eyes off the Shepherd, and the Prize of the High Calling of Christ.
Stand in the gap for Him in this evil world; wage the war in His Power; and rest in the Security of the Blood of the Lamb of God – now and forever; Amen and Amen! – Until that glorious day when you will stand in His Presence forever more.
