Dear House of Hope Prison Ministry:
Requesting a compact Bible
Greetings and God bless all of you at the House of Hope, always. My name is E. C. and I’m incarcerated in the TDCJ system in Texas; 26 years on a 45-year sentence on 2 counts of murder.
A consequential mistake that I’m having to pay for with the rest of my life. No, I had too. Thanks to the blood and crucifixion of my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, I’m forgiven of my past sins. True – it was a tragic mistake. I wish it never had happened at all. But, in fact it did, due to the poor choice I made in the blindness of anger. Now I find myself in this system of the prisons in Texas; which many of us call the Land of Oz.
The things I’ve seen, witnessed, and encountered personally would make any kid think twice of the path in life he will take. That’s what I want to do once out – be a mentor, youth group leader, motivational speaker, lead all to Christ.
Okay, true, I’ve come out of the hoods, gang-life… lost world. Fact: I’ve lost all while in here: Grandmother in 2002; Mother in 2009. My entire family also, they gave up on me altogether. Up to date, they don’t even bother to write. Something I caused when I made my choice. I love all of them and do not hold anything against anyone.
Amazingly, I’m staying strong, focused, positive period.
Thanks to God for His Grace and Mercy. Jesus Christ was always there. I found Him back in 2002, when I had promised my Grandmother I would change and leave everything behind. In September 2007, I got water baptized, and let it be known my complete change and walk. Like Paul, I’m content. Everything might not be great right now. But something that can’t be taken from me is Jesus Christ. Amen.
Short version of my testimony – I’ve got to share.
Anyways, back in July 2015, I got transferred from another unit to here. A bag of property got lost – had my Bible, thermos, t-shirts, etc. – that is my sword. But here at Chapel, they have nothing but NIV, ESV, and NKJV – all paperbacks. Which is good, but I would prefer a KJV. Compact is best, so I could carry it anywhere and everywhere with me.
Can you please send me one? Bible courses would be good too. Keep me focused in my walk with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. If it wasn’t for His ultimate sacrifice, I wouldn’t have been forgiven and have the peace that I do have.
[We were able to order him a new KJV Bible from ARM;
We have mailed him the first of our Bible Study Courses – HOHPM Staff]
Like Jesus told the Scribes and Pharisees in Mathew 23:28: You also outwardly appear righteous to men, but inside you are full of hypocrisy and lawlessness. God despises disobedience of any kind, but He seems to have a special hatred for religious pretense. Why? Perhaps because those who only pretend to love God do a great job of keeping others away from God; which is so true. Look at Micah 6:8, we cannot expect anyone to embrace a Savior they know nothing about. We certainly cannot expect them to surrender to a Lord whose servants can’t even get along with each other. As ambassadors for Christ, believers have the God-given responsibility to live in such a way that others see Christ in us. As the Body of Christ, we are His hands and feet, we are His mouthpiece. Pardon the cliché, but we are the only Jesus most people will ever know.
And that’s why I’m in need of a Bible…
I’d like to thank you in advance. God bless
In Him,
