Hello House of Hope Prison Ministry,
I was writing to say I like the little booklet you sent.
I get out next year, 12 more months left and I’ll be home. I’m sending you the story of my life. It kind of has to do with Proverbs 18:21, “Death and life are in the power of the tongue…”
This is called the Story of My Life. From when I was a newborn, up until the age of 17, I was a good boy. I did finish school. But at the age of 18, I went from a good boy to a bad boy – and that’s not good. All my life I grew up in a church home. I stayed going to church, everyday reading the Bible, going to Sunday school, and singing at the church.
It all started at the age of 16, with my aunt. (God bless the dead and may her soul R.I.P.) She told me that I was dumb, and that I was going never to be nothing, that I was not going to never finish school. I told her – My name is Eric, not Dumb. And she was thinking I was getting smart and talking back, so she slapped me in my face. I started crying. I went to my room and packed my clothes before I told my mom, Miss Ann, to take care of my brother. And right before I left, a tear dropped from my eye.
I went back to my birth mom and stayed with her. Then at 18, I started stealing. I went to jail from the age of 18 to 22. Next year, I’ll be 23 and that’s the year I come home to my mom and two sisters and brother. Pray for them and pray for me that I stay strong. Eric R.
