Genesis means “beginning” or “origin.” The Book of Genesis begins with God. The first Book of the Bible unfolds the story of the beginning of the world, of human history, of family, of civilization, of salvation. It shows the tragedy and consequences of sin; and the promise and assurance of salvation. It is the story of God’s Purpose and Plan for His People.
